OK Let’s get started!
To complete this tutorial, you will need the following stocks:
Create a new document with white background (size doesn’t really matter here), use the gradient fill tool to fill it with the following settings (use the “Radial Gradient” setting from toolbar):
Let’s paint some text base – use a 10px hard white brush, paint a letter as shown below:
Use an equal-sized eraser (100% hardness), erase some parts of the text to create some break-apart, flowing effect:
We will use this white painting as the basis for our text effect.
Let’s add some metal texture onto the text. Load the metal image into Photoshop, select a piece from the image using the quick selection tool:
Use the warp tool to warp the text as shown below: (Ctrl + T, then right-click and select “Warp”)
Apply some liquify filter effect to the texture as well:
Repeat the step above, add more metal texture onto the text:
Hint: Try using a different piece from the metal texture for more variety.
and you will have the following effect so far:
Now let’s make an abstract pattern with some simple brush paint and liquify filter. Create a new layer and use a soft black brush to paint a dot like this one below:
Create a new layer and paint a white dot (slightly smaller and to the top right of the black one):
Use the liquify filter’s forward warp tool, warp this as shown below:
and here is the effect you’re aiming to achieve:
Duplicate this layer a few times, rotate, resize the duplicated layers, attach them to different positions as shown below:
We’re almost done! For some final retouches, we can flatten the image and duplicate the background layer, apply the following unsharp mask filter to give the texture a bit more details:
You can also add some soft light effect with a soft white brush and paint over a new layer:
and here is the final effect I have for this tutorial: (click to enlarge)
That’s it for this tutorial! Hope you enjoy it and find it useful! Till next time, have a great day!
